by J. L. Hardesty
This was one of those books that took over where I, as a writer, left
off. I began with a basic idea and outline, knowing where I wanted to
go, but not always certain how I would get there. Each time I'd come to
an obstacle in my writer's journey, the story would take me over, or seem
to move on without me.
This is a difficult occurrence to explain without sounding like I'm hanging
way out there on the skinny branches. I assure you, however, that it isn't
some form of dementia. I've heard other authors talk about their characters
or their stories taking charge, and I suppose you could call this a somewhat
natural phenomenon. I prefer to call it a gift from God.
Throughout my life, the horses have been such a gift to me. I've always
felt as though God sent the horses to carry me across the dark waters
of life. Even during the worst of times, when I tried to pretend there
was no God, I always felt the connection between Him and these most magical
of all His animals.
"The Lost Legend Trilogy" is my way of saying "thank you"
to the horses and to the God who sent them to carry me to safety, no matter
life's peril. I hope that you enjoy the story and feel something of what
I feel each time I come in contact with one of these animals.
Thank you for giving "The Legend" and its author a chance to
share with you one of life's great passions . . . and the faith this lifetime
love affair has inspired.
